Relief: Ried finally celebrates a home win again after 308 days

The Rieder started on Friday evening in the fourth round of the second division in comparison to the 1:0 away defeat against Stripfing with five new ones in the starting lineup. David Bumberger, David Ungar and Marc-Andre Schmerböck made their starting XI debuts for the Vikings. Philip Pomer (after injury) and Jonas Mayer returned to the starting XI. At Leoben, coach Carsten Jancker set up the ex-Riedes Josef Weberbauer and Julian Turi. The German newcomer Oliver Steurer initially took a seat on the bench. In the rows of spectators were several famous ex-players, including Michael Angerschmid, Thomas Gebauer and Ewald Brenner.

In a tough initial phase in high summer temperatures, Rieder were able to show more possession without becoming really dangerous. However, it was Leobner who had the first chance after a free kick in the 20th minute when Matija Horvath headed the ball dangerously. The many long balls from the Rieder three-man chain could then be run off without any problems by the defensive of the guest team. After 28 minutes, however, after a solo by Philip Pomer, Rieder were able to craft a dangerous shot from Marinsek at guest keeper Zan Pelko’s goal for the first time.

A shot by Julian Turi shortly after the drinking break did not pose a problem for Ried goalkeeper Andreas Leitner. The time had come in the 34th minute of the game. After winning the ball in midfield, Ried striker Mark Grosse was able to place the ball in the left corner of the cross in an exemplary manner after submission by Marc Andre Schmerböck. Afterwards, the Innviertlers were much more awake and the goal scorer missed a cross from Wohlmuth by just centimetres. Shortly before the break, the well-playing David Ungar passed the ball to Nik Marinsek after winning the ball himself. He found his master in guest goalkeeper Zan Pelko. And so referee Markus Hameter sent the teams into the changing rooms in front of around 2,600 fans in the Innviertel Arena.

Despite the 1-0 lead, Ried coach Maximilian Senft made two changes at half-time. Goal scorer Mark Grosse had to leave the field. Youngster Fabian Rossdorfer came in for the assist provider Schmerböck. The Rieders started the second half well. A shot by Fabian Wohlmuth just missed the goal 20 seconds after the restart. On the other hand, Leoben became dangerous out of nowhere via Matija Horvat. However, Andreas Leitner was able to steer the finale to the pole. After winning the ball by the strong Fabian Wohlmuth, the keeper initially held. However, he was no longer able to prevent the cross pass to Fabian Rossdorfer and so the 17-year-old self-made player was able to slide into the empty goal.

At 7:26 p.m. the time had finally come. The west stand called on the rest of the stadium to restore solidarity with the team by saying stand up if you are in Rieder. In the 60th minute Michael Martin made his comeback after a protracted bone infection. He came on for 19-year-old Jonas Mayer. In the 68th minute it was time for new signing Oliver Steurer. The central defender, who came from Oldenburg, was joined by Philip Pomer.

In the final phase, the Rieder managed the lead – completely different than against Admira Wacker, when I still gave 2-0 – confidently. In the final minutes of the game, the team was celebrated with loud applause from the fans – a recent sight that was far too rare in the Innviertel Arena.
