Remembering Jean-Marie Carrier: A Dedicated Politician and Advocate for Public Affairs

We learned with sadness this Friday of the death of Jean-Marie Carrier. The former Barvault provincial deputy passed away peacefully at his home in Barvaux after battling illness in recent months.

Jean-Marie Carrier was born on November 5, 1951 in Vesqueville. But the latter then settled in Durbuy, in Barvaux more precisely, a village to which he was deeply attached.

Member of the PS, Jean-Marie Carrier entered politics in 1989 as municipal councilor of Durbuy. Position held until 1998 before becoming alderman. Proof of this passion for public affairs, in 2018, he again presented himself to the municipal elections on the Commune Passion list. He still sat as an advisor within the minority.

Alongside municipal political life, Jean-Marie Carrier was also involved in the Province. As an advisor from 1991 to 2003 and from 2012 to 2018. He was leader of the PS group there until 2003 before becoming provincial deputy in charge of social and hospital affairs. Position he held until 2012.

But it was within the Vivalia intermunicipal health care company that he also made himself known. On May 8, 2012, he was officially elected president of Vivalia, replacing Patrick Adam. A position in which he worked particularly hard to advance the Vivalia 2025 project. A presidency that he held until June 2019, then replaced by Hottonnaise Marielle Remy.

A hospital world that Jean-Marie Carrier did not discover in 2012 since he had already been working there for quite a few years as president of the Coordination Hospitalière Luxembourgeoise (CHL) which led to the creation of Vivalia at the end of 2008.

A tireless, calm and level-headed worker

To all those who knew him well or who worked with him, Jean-Marie Carrier will leave the image of a calm and level-headed man, faithful in principle and in friendship. He was a tireless worker, viscerally attached to his town of Durbuy in which he also invested a lot.

The funeral ceremony will be celebrated at the Sacré-Cœur church in Barvaux on Wednesday, October 18 at 11 a.m.
