Remembering Jon Harding Andrews: A Life Marked by Generosity and Faith

Jon Harding Andrews, a man deeply rooted in faith and dedicated to helping others, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 22, 2024, at Stonecreek Health & Rehab. He was 82 years old.

Growing up in Inman, South Carolina, Jon was raised by his maternal grandmother, along with his older sister Glenda and twin brother Don, after the passing of his parents, Odell and Edna Marie Andrews. This close-knit family instilled in him a profound trust in the Lord—a belief that would anchor him through life’s challenges.

Following his service in the USMC, Jon embarked on a new chapter, one filled with love and family. He met his wife, Shirley, and together they shared 53 wonderful years, building a life marked by joy and unwavering devotion. They were blessed with two children, Jonathan and Joy.

Jon’s character was defined by his gentle spirit and boundless generosity. Those who knew him well remember his warmth, his infectious laughter, and his genuine concern for others. A visit to his home was never simply a visit; it was an opportunity to experience Jon’s heartfelt hospitality.

He possessed an uncanny ability to anticipate the needs of others, often sending guests home with gifts they didn’t realize they needed.

Jon’s lightheartedness was contagious. He approached life with a joy that radiated outward, brightening the lives of everyone around him.

His faith remained a constant source of strength throughout his life. As Shirley’s health declined, Jon remained steadfast in his love and devotion. Their journey served as a testament to the power of unwavering commitment and faith.

“Meet me at the gate,” Jon whispered to Shirley in her final days, a poignant expression of their unwavering bond that stretched beyond the earthly realm.

Today, Jon is reunited with loved ones who have gone before him. He sits at the Lord’s table, greeted by his wife, his parents, his stepmother Helen, his infant sister Cynthia Leigh, and countless friends and family members.

Jon’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched.

He is survived by his son, Jonathan Andrews (Dean Fitzpatrick) of Marietta, Georgia; daughter, Joy Arthur (Jeremy) of Arden; his sister, Glenda Wolfe of Asheville; his twin brother, Don Andrews of Asheville; two grandchildren, Joanna Arthur and Jesse Arthur; and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Jon’s Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road, with Reverend Chuck Waldrup officiating. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Williamson Lovelights Fund in Jon’s memory. This organization provides crucial support to families facing the challenges of cancer, a cause close to Jon’s heart.
