On November 1, 2022, the actor published his book titled Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing: A Memoir where he recounted several events that marked him throughout his life.

According to United States media, Perry had a strong addiction to Vicodin, a medication used for moderate to intense body pain. Due to this situation, the actor was in a rehabilitation program for almost a month in the now distant 1997.

In recent years, Perry confessed to the health problems he had due to his addictions and in 2018 he suffered a cholestomy for nine months due to the use of opioids, and was also connected to a life support machine.
