Remembering Professor Roger Dehaybe: A Champion for Francophonie and International Recognition

Professor Roger Dehaybe, one of the Belgian pillars of the Francophonie, died on Friday, announced on Saturday the Wallonia-Brussels International agency (WBI).

Professor at the National Higher Institute of Performing Arts and Broadcasting Techniques of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation (INSAS), Roger Dehaybe was also a lecturer at the Free University of Brussels (ULB). Roger Dehaybe served as Chargé de Mission and Chief of Staff to the Ministers of Culture and Education and to the Minister-President of the Walloon Region between 1973 and 1982. He then headed the General Commissariat for International Relations of the French Community (CGRI) which will become the current WBI agency.

Roger Dehaybe was one of the driving forces behind the recognition of federated entities as full players in the international ecosystem“, commented on Saturday the WBI agency on its Linkedin space. Roger Dehaybe was also the general administrator of the intergovernmental agency of La Francophonie from 1998 to 2006. He also chaired a reflection committee for the strengthening of la Francophonie, whose work forms the basis of the reform setting the new institutional framework of the Francophonie.

Beyond his career, there is a man of conviction who laid the foundations of Wallonia-Brussels International and its action in the world.
