Renault boss Luca de Meo: No F1 exit from Alpine

The Formula 1 racing team Alpine presented the new model A523 by Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon on February 16th in London. The Renault group finished fourth in the 2022 Constructors’ Cup in the F1 commitment under the name of the French sports car company.

As in the previous season, the team will sometimes compete in metallic blue, sometimes in pink from sponsor BWT. And that for quite a while, if Renault CEO Luca de Meo has his way. “We believe we have every opportunity to close the gap to the top in the medium term. Our project is long-term, Renault will remain in Formula 1 with Alpine.”

“If we look at the distance to the top in terms of points, it’s considerable. The goal for 2023 is to reduce this gap.”

Team boss Otmar Szafnauer adds: “We could be satisfied with fourth place in 2022. But what I’m not satisfied with is the gap to the top three teams. That needs to change. In doing so, we applied leverage in two main areas – we need to have a more stable car in 2023, with which we can score more points; and we have to increase our speed.”

“We didn’t get a podium finish last season, that has to change in 2023. We want to get closer to third place in the brands classification. Ultimately, Alpine must be able to have a say about victories.”
