Climate activists from the Renovate Switzerland network covered the Wall of the Reformers in the Parc des Bastions in Geneva with a banner on Saturday. They wanted to denounce the inaction of the political world in the face of climate drift.
“Climate emergency the federal government hides its face”, could one read on the banner. No depredation was committed. Using scraps of fabric, the activists blindfolded the four large statues that sit enthroned in the middle of the wall.
The police intervened quickly, making contact with the people who unfurled the banner. The organizers of the action risk a fine for having organized a demonstration without being authorized to do so.
The action took place while the Fête de la Musique took up residence in Geneva. A large stage has been set up near the Reformers’ Wall. Saturday, at noon, the crowd was still small in the paths of the park.
Renovate Switzerland activists have come to prominence lately for blocking roads, including in Zurich and Sion. Several of them had also sat in the middle of the highway in front of the Gotthard tunnel on Good Friday, a very busy day.
