On the occasion of the release of the first volume of his memoirs, A promised land (Editions Fayard), Barack Obama granted, Tuesday, November 17, exceptional maintenance to journalist François Busnel, broadcast on France 2. In this 768-page book, the former US president,u power from 2009 to 2017, tells the decisive moments that marked his first term, from his accession to the White House to the operation against Osama bin Laden in 2011.

During this interview, also available in French version, Barack Obama discusses the current American policy in a country “Split”. “It does not date from Donald Trump, but it was certainly accelerated by his presidency”, he believes. The former president also confides in his relationship to literature, referring to the novelist and Nobel Prize for literature, Toni Morrison, who has it “helped to learn to write”.
Enfin, Barack Obama delivers some anecdotes, like his impressions of his former counterparts, including Nicolas Sarkozy. “Nicolas is someone who is constantly on the move, who constantly spoke, who liked to be paid attention to him. This energy and this charm, associated with Angela Merkel, who was a much more sober, thoughtful person, ended up forming a good combination“, he laughs.
