At least six people died and ten others were injured Thursday due to a liquid nitrogen leak in an agri-food plant near the city of Atlantalocal police reported.
According to the first information, the incident left “five deaths confirmed on the spot,” the Gainesville police told reporters, in the state of Georgia, adding that ten people were taken to the hospital.
One of them died at the medical center, while three others are in intensive care.
The leak did not cause an explosion and the motives are still under investigation, police added.
The accident occurred on Thursday around 10:00 local time in a Prime Pak Foods plant, specialized in poultry processing, located in Hall County.
Students from nearby schools were temporarily confined to their classes, as the initial information mistakenly warned of a chemical explosion.
