Eluri was born in 1966 near Ramallah in the West Bank and joined Hamas after it was founded in 1987.
News of his death comes at a critical moment for Hamas. About three months ago, Hamas fighters crossed the Gaza border and raided southern Israel, killing 1,200 people and taking 240 hostages, prompting Israel to launch retaliatory actions in an attempt to annihilate Hamas.

The key to his position is that, as a senior Hamas official in Lebanon, he is responsible for consolidating bilateral relations between Hamas and the Lebanese Shiite fundamentalist militia “Hezbollah” (Hezbollah), and through Allah party to solidify bilateral relations between Hamas and its backer Iran.
Domestically, Al-Erouri is said to be vigorously advocating for the rival Palestinian factions to bury the hatchet. He also maintains good relations with Fatah, the party of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and an influential party in the West Bank. .
However, when it comes to the Israeli conflict, Aluri is seen as a hardliner. He helped found Hamas’ armed wing, the Izz el-Deen al-Qassam Brigades, and Israel has accused him of being behind several deadly attacks over the years. For example, when three Israeli teenagers were abducted and murdered in the West Bank in 2014, Israel accused Aluri as the culprit.
In addition, several shooting incidents last year broke out after Aluri appeared on television and threatened to attack Israel.
He was also closely involved in negotiations on the Israel-Kazakhstan war and said in December last year that no more hostages would be released unless there was a comprehensive ceasefire.
