The political landscape in Guinea is experiencing a new shock with the resignation of six political parties within the National Alliance for Alternation and Democracy (ANAD). This decision was announced recently, provoking reactions and calls for unity from the president of ANAD, Cellou Dalein Diallo.

In a statement issued this Sunday, the ANAD leader expressed his acceptance of these resignations and stressed that, out of respect and courtesy, the invitation to join a new coalition should have followed the resignation and not preceded it. However, he wanted to wish “good luck” to this new coalition, called the Alliance for the Republic (APR).

Cellou Dalein Diallo took the opportunity to call on the 13 remaining political parties within ANAD to close ranks and “continue the fight for the advent of a democratic society in Guinea, respectful of human rights and fundamental liberties. This resignation must not weaken the common objective of ANAD, which is to promote change and democratic alternation in the country”.

The resignation of the six political parties was preceded by the receipt of a letter inviting the president of ANAD to participate in the launch of the APR. This raised questions about the timing of this invitation and led to reflection on respect for procedures and political courtesy. Nevertheless, according to the statutes of the ANAD, the member parties have the right and the freedom to resign from the Alliance, as stipulated in article 5 of its Charter.

The reaction of the ANAD to these resignations is imbued with a constructive spirit, wishing good luck to the parties that have chosen to leave. However, it reaffirms its commitment to its ideals and principles, calling on the other parties to remain united in the fight for a democratic Guinea that respects fundamental rights.
