Respect Your Reservation: Whatz Hap Restaurant in Beringen Charges Customers for No-Shows

The Belgian restaurant Whatz Hap, located in Beringen, has decided to now charge customers who do not respect their reservation. “People book for seven and then say without any shame when they arrive that there are only six. For us, that makes a difference,” explains establishment manager Jeroen Mangelschots to our colleagues at Belang van Limburg.

Since June 1, the restaurant has enjoyed great success thanks to its all-you-can-eat formula, allowing customers to eat for five hours and choose from 80 dishes, paying 37.50 euros per person. “It’s an incredible success,” says the manager. “We are already full until mid-November,” he adds.

But small confusions with reservations are starting to pose a problem. “About twice a week, we notice that groups arrive with fewer people than expected. Someone wants to reserve a table for eight people a month in advance, but in the end they only get six,” laments Jeroen, who says that for them it’s a problem. “If we know regarding these absences in advance, we can rearrange the tables a little while still accommodating someone on the waiting list. In addition, our workforce is adapted to reservations, so we can also adjust it,” adds the manager.
