Responsibility ERDE founder Sascha Jabali was recently sworn in as a city councillor. He succeeds Gerald Dobernig, who after two years is stepping down voluntarily into the second row.
There is a personnel change in the seven-strong Villach city government. Gerald Dobernig, who has been a city councilor with responsibility for ERDE since the 2021 election, voluntarily steps into the second row for family reasons and will act as club chairman in the future. He is succeeded by ERDE founder Sascha Jabali.
Jabali has been active in city politics for 14 years. First he was active as a functionary of the BZÖ, in 2015 he succeeded in entering the municipal council with the newly founded responsibility ERDE with his own parliamentary group.
He is aware of his new responsibility, says Jabali in his inaugural speech. He will focus on “the urgently needed mobility turnaround” and on environmental issues. The fact that the criminal justice department is also one of his duties prompted him to make an anecdotal remark: “My grandfather, Franz Thaler, was sworn into the city council here 48 years ago. Among other things, he was responsible for the criminal justice department. So this responsibility has a certain family tradition.”
Jabali’s political area of responsibility is identical to that of his predecessor, Dobernig. It includes the topics of mobility, cycling, nature and environmental protection, traffic planning, road law and the criminal justice department.
Mayor Günther Albel thanked Gerald Dobernig for his constructive work “even in difficult times” and emphasized in the direction of the successor that a willingness to compromise as a city councilor was necessary.
