Reusable glasses arrive at the Abbaye de Fleurier

Big change for local societies and partygoers for the Abbaye de Fleurier. The reusable glasses will now be used for the event which takes place from June 25 to 27. This change was to be implemented in 2020it was postponed due to the pandemic and the cancellation of the last two editions.

50,000 cups for the Abbey

In fact, there will be only a few differences for consumers, with the exception of the deposit of two francs per cup. For the stands, preparations started some time ago. Each company estimated the number of glasses they needed for 3 days. The Municipality of Val-de-Travers, which organizes the Abbey, then placed the overall order with a specialized company in Yverdon. 50,000 reusable glasses, all sizes combined, are therefore planned for the three days of events. And that should be enough, because the estimates of the number of glasses have been revised upwards by the authorities.

Support for small hilly events

For the future, Val-de-Travers does not intend to buy reusable glasses to make a private stock, as the Harvest Festival committee recently did in Neuchâtel. The authorities believe that this is not the objective of a public authority. But the Commune will soon offer support for small events in the Vallon, with a 3% discount for all orders for reusable tableware placed via the Commune of Val-de-Travers.

Plates and other crockery may still be made of plastic this year at the Abbaye de Fleurier. On the other hand, cantonal law will oblige events to use only recyclable materials from 1is January 2023. /swe
