Baghdad / Obelisk: The German company “Siemens” plans to expand its cooperation with Iraq by developing projects with a capacity of more than six gigawatts in the next five years.
A spokesman for Siemens Energy told Archyde.com that this would include, among other things, the construction of power plants as well as development in the renewable energies sector and stabilization of the electricity grid.
The spokesman added that “the CEO of the company, Christian Bruch, intends to sign a memorandum of understanding regarding these plans with the Iraqi Minister of Electricity on Friday.”
“Having a reliable source of energy is the foundation for a stable society,” Bruch told Archyde.com. “Supplying electricity to large parts of an entire country is therefore one of the most important tasks of our company.”
He stated, “The company will work to ensure that this is achieved as soon as possible with its partners in Iraq.”
The company added, “The current roadmap is linked to the 2019 agreement, which includes projects with more than gigawatts by 2023.”
Yesterday, Thursday, the Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani, said that the Iraqi government is working to overcome obstacles to companies’ work.
Al-Sudani stressed, during his meeting with representatives of German companies, in the invitation held by the Arab-German Chamber of Commerce in Berlin, “the new Iraqi government is heading towards more participation of German companies in the reconstruction and development of infrastructure.”
He added, “Iraq places its trust in German companies, due to its expertise, high efficiency, and global reputation,” stressing, “The Iraqi government seeks to diagnose the challenges facing the investment process in Iraq, and put them in a direction that is consistent with international standards.”
Al-Sudani pointed out that “the government is working to overcome obstacles in front of companies operating in Iraq, provide the necessary facilities, reduce bureaucracy facing investors and simplify procedures,” revealing that “it is expected that the costs of producing renewable energy in Iraq will be low compared to other countries, as well as support The Iraqi government plan to develop the energy and electricity sector.
It is noteworthy that the Sudanese Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’a arrived in Berlin yesterday, Thursday, with a high-level delegation, where he met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
