The JBL Tour Pro 2 turns heads when you see it, as it is the first Bluetooth TWS in-ear to feature a touchscreen in the charging case. At first sight, it may be something superfluous, but after some time using the headset, it was possible to understand the company’s proposal to implement a touch display in the case of its TWS in-ear headset.

Although there is room for improvement, implementing a touchscreen in the case of a TWS Bluetooth headset can be an interesting addition to improve the user experience. JBL was the first company to bet on this idea and it caught my attention. Even without considering the sound quality, this product deserves attention just for adding this unusual design, as you can see below.

Is the Tour Pro 2 comfortable in the ear? Is the build quality good?

JBL tried to unite the comfort of an earbud type headset, which rests on the ear shells, with an in-ear, which is inserted inside the ear canal through the use of ear tips (“tips”). The idea was to distribute the weight of the earphone over the ear shells, as an earbud does, and provide attenuation of the sounds of the environment where you are, something that in-ear headphones deliver with ease.

Initially, I had some difficulty fitting the Tour Pro 2 in my ears, because as its ear tips are flattened making an ellipse instead of a circle, it is necessary to rotate the headset back and forth until proper positioning occurs. in the ear canal. However, fortunately, after that “first encounter”, fitting is considerably easier, as the ear tip is already positioned according to the shape of the ear canal.

In the end, the Tour Pro 2 proved to be very comfortable for my ears and I didn’t experience any discomfort, even after hours of use. In addition, it is important to mention that its construction gives the feeling of solidity and picking it up does not feel like it will slip through your fingers at any moment. It is important to mention that around its body there are small friezes that seem to help keep it safe in the ear.

The finishing of the charging case is not only impressive because of the color touchscreen, as the contrast of the matte black body with the shiny frieze in the region where the lid closes provides a charm. In addition, in the hinge region, there is the name “Tour Pro 2” engraved on a small metal plate, further enhancing the beauty of this headset.

Is the Tour Pro 2’s touchscreen useful?

Through the touch screen of the Tour Pro 2 case it is possible to have all the resources that the JBL application has. I can change the “ambient sound” mode, activate ANC (Active Noise Cancelling or Cancellation of Active Noise), program to turn off, activate the “spatial audio”, activate the “auto play&pause” function, activate the “voiceware” regulate the display brightness, set an image for the lock screen, adjust the volume, control music playback and activate the equalizer and choose one of the predefined equalizations (jazz, vocal, bass, club and studio). That is, I can do everything without having to take the cell phone in hand.

If I’m away from the cell phone, either because it’s recharging the battery at the outlet or it’s far from the environment where I am, the touch screen of the case can carry out all the commands I need. As the charging case is easier to carry in your hand or pocket, I felt that I have more mobility, flexibility, when carrying only the headset and its case. However, I missed a way to store music in the case itself, because this way, music playback could happen completely independently of the cell phone, notebook or tablet.

Is the Tour Pro 2 good for exercise?

Although the fit of the Tour Pro 2 provides great comfort, there is not a good enough fixation to prevent it from falling out of the ears during the practice of exercises that have sudden movements. Even though the headphones are IPX5 certified against splashes of sweat and water, I don’t recommend using the Tour Pro 2 during intense workouts.

Is the Tour Pro 2’s Bluetooth connection stable or broken? What codecs does it support?

Tour Pro 2 has Bluetooth 5.3 and supports SBC and AAC Bluetooth audio codecs. Your connection is stable, but every now and then I hear a little hiss on the right side when switching songs. Another point that I noticed is that when I put the phone in my ear, there is a “silence” of a background hiss that is noticed as soon as I put it in my ear.

Music playback controls in Tour Pro 2

The Tour Pro 2 lets you control playback via body touches as well as using the touchscreen on its charging case.

Does the Tour Pro 2 have good battery life?

The battery life of the Tour Pro 2 is excellent, especially with the ANC (Active Noise Canceling) turned off, and can reach up to 10 hours of continuous playback. I had no problem during a whole day of work, even when I decided to activate the ANC, because I can still use the TWS headset for up to 8 hours this way. But when we see the talk time, the duration drops to 5 hours and 30 minutes with ANC on and 6 hours with ANC off.

How is the sound quality of the Tour Pro 2?

This is the first TWS Bluetooth headphone from JBL that I’ve noticed a more balanced sound that comes closer to what I consider natural. Even with more bass activity than I consider to be neutral, the Tour Pro 2 has a good implementation and doesn’t make songs sound muted, lacking definition. It is possible to notice that the mids still have their highlight in the presentation, even if they are a little back compared to the bass and treble.

Fortunately, I didn’t notice a “coolness” on the part of the Tour Pro 2’s mids, even with the aforementioned recoil. There’s even a certain warmth to certain songs. I also noticed that the mids don’t sound closed and I think it’s due to more activity in the highs, which makes the sound more airy.

In the high end, I notice that the Tour Pro 2 has a satisfactory brightness and extension, but I missed a certain amount of control when listening to the sound of the drum cymbals. However, considering the overall performance and lack of stridency, I found the high frequencies to be fairly presented.

In terms of stage and separation, I didn’t notice a great expansiveness in the songs. However, the Tour Pro 2’s separation of instruments and voices is honest and there isn’t a frequent problem of jumbled sounds.

Conclusion

The JBL Tour Pro 2 doesn’t have direct competition in terms of features, but looking at its sound quality and build, its price of BRL 1699 may sound “salty” to some. However, as it is the only TWS Bluetooth headset to feature a touchscreen in the charging case, providing access to virtually all features, it’s difficult to estimate whether it’s worth paying for in the end. In the end, it will depend on whether you value this differential a lot or prefer to pay less and opt for headphones with sound quality that are just as good.
