Rio Ferdinand defends Sterling after leaving Chelsea

Rio Ferdinand has defended Raheem Sterling following criticism over his move to Chelsea At a value of 50 million pounds, in the current summer transfer season.

The winger became the first signing of the Todd Boley era on Wednesday followingnoon, as the Blues look to bridge the gap with Manchester City and Liverpool.

Ferdinand said in comments published by the English newspaper “Daily Mail”: “You know what goes in my head when there is a divided opinion regarding him (Stirling), I don’t understand that.”

He added: “He was in the perfect squad last season in the Premier League, he was the best young player of the year, he did everything he might in the Manchester City shirt, all he did not do was win the Champions League.”

“But nobody in Manchester City did that, so that’s the way.”

He continued: “We can talk regarding his skill, we can talk regarding his speed, we can talk regarding his goals and achievements, but was there an English player who achieved the success that he achieved and is still in question?”

And he continued: “Under the leadership of Pep Guardiola he had the most matches and had the second most goals, and yet you find there are people who say (he should score more, he does not score enough), what do you mean? He is already doing this.”
