Hot air balloons
Kaposvár promises a spectacular event in the air and on land at the end of May.
The 43rd National Hot Air Balloon Flying Championship will take place in Kaposvár from May 23rd to 26th. The Rippl-Rónai Cup will offer a real tourist attraction for visitors. You can watch the flights on all competition days – weather permitting – and there are accompanying programs in the followingnoons. The championship, in which 20 balloons compete, is also open to teams from abroad.
In the 1990s and the first years following the turn of the millennium, balloon sports experienced a “boom”, later only one competition was held in Hungary per year.
The competition rules provide for 20 different tasks to be combined. The longer flight in the morning is intended for 3-5 elements and in the followingnoon for 2-3 elements. One of the simplest tasks is to fly from a balloon over a certain point in order to drop a ribbon from there. Whoever aims most accurately gets the most points.
