Beyond the potential risks to the safety of our future electric vehicles, the fact remains that cars are still being stolen in Belgium, whether they have a combustion engine or not. For the first nine months of 2022, Volkswagen is the most stolen brand with 496 cars stolen throughout Belgium.

Looking more closely at the figures from the federal police, we see that the German brand is especially appreciated by thugs in Wallonia (342 out of the total of 496 thefts). And it is in Hainaut where the phenomenon is most present with 202 flights, or nearly 40% of the Belgian balance sheet. By way of comparison, the province of Liège is only 84 flights from VW… which is almost the balance for the whole of Flanders (88 flights). Brussels is at 66.

Thieves in the north of the country prefer to attack Mercedes first: 120 thefts in Flanders. In its top 5 brands by region, the federal police does not include Mercedes thefts in Wallonia. The top 5 of the most stolen brands in the south of the country are distributed as follows: Volkswagen (342), Peugeot (195), Renault (146), Citroën (123) and BMW (87).
In Flanders, the ranking is different: Mercedes (120), Volkswagen (88), BMW (80), Renault (70) and Toyota (60). In Brussels-Capital, thieves target Toyota (84), Renault (75), Peugeot (73), Volkswagen (66) and Mercedes (58).
