Berlin – There are indications that the extreme right-wing movements, which suffered a setback in the last general election, are once more increasing their popular support in Germany. Support for the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party has hit a record high in the latest opinion polls. All mainstream parties in the country are worried regarding this.

AfD currently has the support of 18 percent. Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s Social Democratic Party has only this much support.

SPD got 25.7 percent support in the last election. AFD got 10.3 percent of the vote that day. This has now made a significant difference.

Norbert Rotgen, a senior leader of the main opposition Christian Democratic Union, said it was a warning to all political parties. In an opinion poll conducted on May 30 and 31 with the participation of 1,302 voters, the CDU received 29 percent support.

Rotgen said the opinion polls reflected dissatisfaction with the government’s actions.
