RN Application for AIDS Group

Worry and anger. The possibility that the RN may chair the AIDS group at the National Assembly arouses great emotion in the associative milieu in the fight against AIDS. Thus, Thursday, November 8, two associations, Actions Treatments and Vers Paris sans sida (VPSS) sent two open letters to Yaël Braun-Pivet, the President of the National Assembly. In his letter, Franck Desbordes, the president of Actions Treatments recalls the serophobic history of the RN: “The National Front (FN), which recently became the National Rally (RN), has always distinguished itself as a fundamentally serophobic party, opposed to the rights of minorities and quick to stigmatize people living with HIV, as well as those at risk of contracting this virus (…). We have taken note of the press release that you published on Wednesday 9 November concerning the procedure for assigning the chairmanship of the group on anti-Semitism. We expect the same vigilance on your part as for that of the AIDS study group. The mere fact that this possibility exists, even if it is just another provocation of the RN, is enough to worry us to the highest degree. Because it is a real blow to those who are fighting against HIV-AIDS or to the memory of the 38 million people who have died as a result of AIDS throughout the world, since the start of the epidemic” deplores Actions Treatments. Same story on the side of VPSS: “We ask you with all our might to oppose it: the serophobic, homophobic and xenophobic positions of the Front National for 40 years, most often expressed in violent and abusive terms, are a repeated affront healthcare professionals, associations and people living with HIV,” says France Lert, President of Paris Sans SIDA. A new meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, November 16, during which the various political groups will be able to discuss the presidencies again before the office of the National Assembly validates or not this list on December 7.
