Roam and M-kopa team up to deploy electric motorcycles in Africa

The Kenyan-Swedish startup Roam Motors and M-Kopa, an African connected asset financing platform, have decided to enter into a partnership to deploy electric motorcycles in Africa. With this in mind, the two startups have signed an agreement whereby they will try to help customers across Africa to obtain electric motorcycles at affordable prices and on credit.

According to the terms of the agreement, in a first phase which will begin at the end of 2022, Roam will deliver the first motorcycles. Then it will considerably increase its offer at the beginning of 2023. And this initiative will coincide with the company’s vision which wants to make the vehicles as well as more accessible electric motorcycles, particularly in emerging markets.

For its part, M-Kopa will help streamline the distribution of electric motorcycles and, at the same time, provide the opportunity to expand Roam’s market reach in the regions of Africa where it operates (Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria and Ghana). ). “We believe the motorcycle taxi industry is one of the most impactful areas, given the growing size of the market and its importance to low-income people, not only in Africa, but in the whole world. Our partnership with M-KOPA will lead us both towards our common vision of cleaner mobility. said Mikael Gånge, co-founder and chief commercial officer of Roam

It should be noted that for several years, Roam has had an ambition to conquer the African market for electric cars and motorcycles. The brand already has an active pilot program in Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
