Robbery by impersonating bank employees; A five-member gang was arrested in Sharjah

Sharjah: Police in Sharjah have arrested a five-member gang who were robbing residents’ savings accounts by pretending to be bank employees. Sharjah Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Director Colonel Omar Ahmed Balsod said many were lured by frequent phone calls to victims to update their bank details and if they did not respond, their accounts would be frozen.

The police collected all the reports about the fraud which soon led to an investigation and the identification of the callers for the fraud. The headquarters of the accused were found and mobile phones, computers, SIM cards etc. were found from the flat used for fraud. The CID director warned the public against such scams. It is emphasized to never respond to these suspicious calls. Do not share bank details or personal information with anyone, especially online or over the phone. Those who want to update any information related to their bank account are advised to visit the nearest branch of the bank instead.
