Robot hand lifts 1,000 times its own weight

A team of researchers from the Italian Institute of Technology, in the Soft Robotics Laboratory, has developed a 3D-printed soft robot “GRACE” in the form of a hand, which lifts 1,000 times its weight, is one centimeter in width, weighs 8 grams, and was able to lift 8 kilograms. The robot works by converting energy into movement, by pumping air inside and outside the robot, in a way that mimics normal muscle activity.

The scientists explained that the robot not only expands and contracts, but is also bendable as the human hand, because it is made using resins or glue.

The researchers explained that this generation of robots is characterized by its ability to fold, which gives it more strength and flexibility than previous robots.

The researchers tested the robot in different conditions, and it demonstrated its ability to lift 8 kilograms.
