As the parish prepares to sell the Centro Ronchi youth center in Saronno, Robur Basket Saronno has urged the municipal administration to clarify its intentions, raising the possibility of purchasing the complex’s palasport building independently to safeguard local sports associations.
Market Impact
- Facility Valuation: The potential acquisition addresses the home court for Saronno basketball.
- Community Footprint: Preserving the Ronchi facility protects shared operational spaces for local multi-sport organizations facing space shortages.
- Municipal Leverage: The club’s proactive stance draws attention to the future of the community asset.

Robur Basket Saronno has publicly challenged the civic administration to state its intentions. Faced with the prospect of the complex being sold to private buyers, club leadership is evaluating an independent bid to acquire at least the building that houses the palasport.
“We have been here since 1955, we were born right inside the oratory and we feel not tenants but an integral part of the pastoral community,” Robur’s directors stated. The club has used the Ronchi facility since 1983.
The Threat of Space Shortages in Saronno
Ezio Vaghi noted that Robur has historically avoided relying on municipal facilities. However, losing the Palaronchi to private ownership could have effects on Saronno’s broader sports ecosystem.
“We are a healthy company, which has principles that are then those that we all share since the days of foundation in the oratory,” Vaghi said. He added that with the past help of figures like Charlie Yelverton, the club became an important sporting reality in Lombardy.
The Centro Ronchi hosts not only basketball but also Robur calcio and the Tennis Club Ceriano Saronno, operating as a heavily utilized daily hub. The parish, however, no longer considers the center strategic due to costs.
| Entity | Role at Centro Ronchi | Operational Status |

| Robur Calcio | User | Facing potential displacement |
| Ceriano Saronno Tennis Club | User | Seeking municipal clarity |
Calls for Municipal Action
Vaghi emphasized that the club has consistently invested in facility improvements and paid utility bills. He argued that the local administration should recognize the value the center holds for the entire community.
“The transition to the local authority would be the ideal solution,” Vaghi said. If the municipality declines to step in, Robur remains prepared to formulate a direct economic offer specifically for the palasport arena.
