Students from CET 1 of Roca built an electric car to participate in the ECO-YPF challenge. Marcos Craievich together with Cristian Fernand were the teachers who encouraged the students to be part of the project. The story of how they put it together step by step.

As reported by Marcos, the school has participated since 2015. «We always worked in a similar way, forming teams with students who have the profile suitable for the task.“: mechanical, projection, planning, working, getting people to support, being organized, neat, having good grades in classroom assignments so that they can have the time necessary to dedicate to the project perhaps after hours,” the teacher explained.

The ECO YPF Challenge is an annual event that brings together students from technical schools across the country in a competition that tests their skills in engineering and alternative energies. For it, Each team must design and build a sustainable vehicle prototype.

«The competition is very large and complete. “It has many conditions which the kids have to share and work on,” said Marcos, adding that This year a total of 140 schools participate where the vehicles will run at the same time and show what they were able to achieve.

Building the car: “think before acting”

In order to carry out the construction of the car, the students had to follow several steps. “In planning we teach children to think before acting, which is not very easy or not very common, but it is extremely necessary,” said the teacher.

The second step was to work “in the best way” on the mechanical part. «On the one hand, you have to think about what is most efficient and, on the other hand, solve situations that arise on the fly.inconveniences, issues that need to be improved or that need to be corrected once the project is already underway.

The car that the students present this year is the same one they took in the previous competition, but they modified it and adapted it to the conditions of the regulations established by the competition.

«These projects mobilize students a lot. A lot of work is done to try to encourage them not only with motorsports but with the responsibilities we need: work, dedication and generating a bond and also linking with other institutions«said the teacher.

«The experience of the boys showing the car is always positive because “People congratulate them, applaud them, understand them, show their growth and also help them personally.”highlighted Marcos, who will accompany the students to the competition that will take place from November 3 to 5 at the Óscar and Juan Gálvez racetrack in Buenos Aires.
