The ROG Phone 7 Ultimate is Asus’ latest gaming phone to hit the market. The company has refined its design to bring you the ultimate device for mobile gaming. Is the new one much superior to its predecessors?
The Ultimate has a different design than the conventional ROG Phone 7. The one we tested is more robust with a small door that gives access to the heatsink. It comes with the AeroActive Cooler that helps to cool the cell phone, has a built-in subwoofer and also triggers that improve gameplay. All this adorned by several LEDs that pulsate when playing.
The new Asus gamer phone has a large 6.78-inch screen with Full HD resolution and a 165 Hz AMOLED panel. The screen chosen has low latency to improve response time in games. The sound has been improved and now has better bass response and is more powerful and three-dimensional.
Performance is due to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 combined with up to 16 GB of RAM. The ROG is fast, though it’s not the fastest Android phone we’ve tested, but it achieved the best benchmark scores when using X Mode which exploits maximum performance in exchange for shorter battery life. Ultrasonic triggers are still present on the device and all the extras for games like Game Genie and Armory Create.
The 6,000 mAh battery may not be new, but this generation surprised us with autonomy. It’s the top-of-the-line phone with the best battery life we’ve tested to date, and it came close to scoring 40 hours of moderate use with a few games. The recharge time is good and it recovers the entire battery in less than an hour.
And we have the cameras that were never the strong point of the line and still aren’t. The photographic set consists of 50 MP, 13 MP ultra-wide and 5 MP macro cameras. The ROG manages to record good photos, but it will not compete with the best from Samsung and Apple. The camcorder records in 8K, has good stabilization and snappy focus, as well as decent audio capture.
