The animated Starlight headliner adds a real sense of theater and wonder for passengers as they take their seats in the vehicle. The dashboard depicts the stages of a total solar eclipse and includes a personalized watch set with a dazzling 0.5 carat diamond. The two-tone, perforated “Panoramic Sunset” leather seats reproduce the mesmerizing 360-degree twilight effect seen at the time of the total eclipse.

Harnessing the incredible strengths of this celestial phenomenon, the refined controls explore the captivating play of light and darkness, recreating the awe-inspiring moment when the Moon completely obscures the Sun.
The purity of the Rolls-Royce Ghost, imbued with the subversive spirit of the Black Badge, provides the Rolls-Royce Bespoke collective with the perfect canvas and unlimited possibility to express the beauty of this splendor of the universe.
The launch of these highly personalized cars, limited to just 25 examples, coincides with the annular solar eclipse visible in parts of the Western Hemisphere on October 14, 2023.
Exterior, golden darkness
The mysterious, ethereal light cast by a total solar eclipse is captured in the car’s Lyrical Copper exterior color. This stunning bespoke finish incorporates powdered copper pigments, which appear darker until they catch the light and then produce a rich, dramatic iridescence.
Tangerine color adorns the inserts below the Pantheon grille and brake calipers, recalling the intense pulses of sunlight seen as the eclipse progresses. The same tangerine hue is used for the hand-painted bodywork, which includes a delicate abstract depiction of the transition from sunlight to darkness as the moon moves closer to conceal the sun.
Headliner Starlight
The Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ekleipsis features a completely bespoke Starlight headliner with special animation that, like the eclipse that inspires it, gives those inside a real feeling of both amazement and wonder. When the car doors close and the engine starts, the “stars” of the Starlight headliner darken and a fascinating sequence begins, replicating the entire solar eclipse, when the dark silhouette of the Moon completely blocks the bright light of the Sun. A circle of 940 “stars” is formed, representing the luminous corona around the lunar silhouette. This circle is surrounded by 192 other illuminating “stars”, recreating the strange spectacle of stars visible in the sky in broad daylight, which only occurs during a total solar eclipse.
The animation remains visible for exactly seven minutes and 31 seconds, the longest possible duration of a total solar eclipse. Once this time has passed, the full constellation of stars in the night sky is restored. This highly technical feature required a year of careful development, during which the Bespoke Collective produced three complete prototypes to perfect the design and sequence of the “stars”.
The illuminated fairing and the “Diamond Ring” watch
The light strip of the Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis is decorated with 1,846 laser-engraved “stars” on the symbolic timeline of a total eclipse. A single Bespoke designer was tasked with adjusting the size and position of each “star” to create the hypnotic effect; a delicate and demanding process that required more than 100 hours of work.
The composition culminates in a bespoke timepiece, which incorporates a 0.5 carat brilliant cut diamond, reminiscent of the “Diamond Ring” effect, when a single dazzling point of light can be seen on the outline of the moon in the seconds immediately preceding and following the obscuration of the sun by the moon. The geometry of the bezel has been modified to accommodate the gemstone, as this is the first time in Rolls-Royce history that a gemstone has been integrated into the watch’s bezel. The assembly has been subjected to rigorous adhesion testing, including climate cycles from -30°C to +90°C, to ensure the diamond is securely attached. The timepiece is finished with engraving on its dark aluminum surround, revealing the shiny metal beneath. This magnificent piece of contemporary craftsmanship is the result of over 14 design iterations.
Indoor panoramic sunset
During the totality of a solar eclipse, there is a moment when a golden twilight surrounds those viewing the eclipse, giving the illusion of a 360-degree sunset. In the Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis, the beauty of this rarely seen phenomenon is captured by two-tone seats featuring a unique perforated decor, made up of more than 200,000 individual perforations.
The bold mandarin leather is dyed in a black shade which is then perforated to reveal the brighter contrasting color underneath, creating a visual effect of extraordinary depth and subtlety. Using computational design tools, the Bespoke collective developed a unique pattern, which was then manually refined over seven trials and iterations.
Bespoke finishes include illuminated tread plates, umbrellas with mandarin edging concealed in the vehicle doors, as well as a unique interior car cover bearing the private collection wordmark.
The 25 examples of the Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis Private Collection have been allocated to customers around the world.
