Romania finds an unidentified marine vessel carrying 500 kilograms of explosives in the Black Sea

Romania – On April 3, 2024, an unusual naval drone was discovered floating upside down in Romanian territorial waters.

According to the British newspaper Naval News, after inspecting it, it turned out that the drone was an American-made boat equipped with a warhead from a Soviet missile. Two days after its discovery, the Roman army destroyed the march using a controlled explosion.

It should be noted that the AM-800 aluminum rigid hull inflatable boat was used as a base when manufacturing the drone. Such boats are manufactured in the United States of America, specifically in the state of Alabama, and are intended for fire and rescue work or for use as a maneuverable training target. The AM-800 is approximately 9.5 meters long.

The useful payload in the drone boat is a warhead from the Soviet-made “Termit” anti-ship missile, with the weight of the explosives exceeding 500 kilograms. It was mounted on a rough wooden frame at the front of the boat. The warhead contains a shaped charge, the explosion of which causes a large hole in the ship before the main charge explodes, causing further damage.

While Ukraine did not officially acknowledge that the naval drone belongs to it. However, the type of boat and its American origin may indicate its Ukrainian origin.
