Romania Thanks Morocco for Significant Support in Securing Release of Romanian Hostage

Romania thanked the Kingdom of Morocco on Wednesday for its “significant support” for the release of the Romanian hostage, Iulian Ghergut, detained in the Sahel since 2015.

In a statement, the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the release of this security officer from a manganese mine in northern Burkina Faso, near the borders of Mali and Niger, who had been kidnapped on April 4, 2015 by the Al-Mourabitoune group, rallied to Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), while thanking Morocco for its “significant support” for his release.
