Just like their grandparents and parents, today’s youth dream of owning their own home. Although times have changed, mobility has increased and globalization has contributed significantly to the migration process, surveys still show that most young people want to own a home.

Nine out of ten French people under the age of 30 want to be owners, not renters, while eight out of ten people aged 16 to 25 in Switzerland and Germany dream of the same.

In many parts of Europe, the dream of being a homeowner is present from the age of 20. From dream to reality is, however, a long way. The Belgians are the ones who manage to buy a home the earliest, while the Czechs are the last in this ranking.

Romania is in a somewhat paradoxical position. Although the average age of purchasing a home is among the oldest, Romania is, as we well know, the country with the highest percentage of home owners in the world.

For this, there are explanations that go back to the time of communism and the first part of the transition.
