Rosemary is a plant considered medicinal and also aromatic for the preparation of different foods.

Aromatic, wild and with multiple natural properties, rosemary has become fashionable not only to season an artisanal dish that we prepare, but also to drink it in a tea or found in different medicinal products that we apply to the body.

Rosemary is a plant, whose scientific name is Rosmarinus officinalis L, is native to Mediterranean Europe. It is a small or shrub of up to one and a half meters, with a good and abundant aroma. It is always green and has branches. It has narrow needle-like leaves, whitish on the back. It has few flowers, white, pink or blue. The fruits have four small seeds. Rosemary is a rich source of pantothenic acid, niacin, thiamine, folate and riboflavin, as well as phytochemicals that are essential for maintaining a healthy body.

“Since ancient times it has been used as a diuretic, anti-inflammatory, anti-ulcer and antioxidant, as well as having an antibacterial, antiseptic, fungicide and balsamic effect. It increases blood flow in the affected area, relieving pain from musculoskeletal disorders. Rosemary infusion is good. “Take them because they have good tonic and stimulating properties, they solve the problems of poor digestion, flatulence, heartburn, bloating and reflux,” explained Dr. Juan Quispe Rodríguez, doctor and professor at the National University of Huanta, in Peru.

And he added: “In traditional and modern medicine, the applications of plants of the Lamiaceae family are very varied, due to the presence of various metabolites, main components of essential oils such as organic acids, saponins and tannins, among others, that have antifungal, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant, antibacterial properties.”

Rosemary is characterized as a circulatory stimulant, since its consumption facilitates blood circulation in the brain. This triggers another series of benefits for the body in vital processes such as concentration, learning and memory. The plant has multiple properties that provide positive factors for the body, since the leaves contain tannins (molecules useful for human health) and vitamin C, among other benefits.

It is also well known that rosemary is characterized by being rich in flavonoid compounds, terpenes and phenolic acids that provide it with its antioxidant properties; It is also easy to handle, which is why it can be used in both foods and drinks that help improve the circulatory system.

The plant also helps reduce pain and inflammation: for those who suffer from diseases such as arthritis or rheumatism, rosemary is an excellent option. It can be used in ointments or infusions to relieve pain and inflammation. It has also been shown to be effective in treating muscle pain caused by injuries.

Rosemary is an ancient plant born in the Mediterranean

Likewise, the Digital Library of Traditional Mexican Medicine supported by the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) mentioned that it is used in skin problems, to heal wounds, canker sores, measles and also prevents hair loss, is used to wash it and remove dandruff. Thanks to the properties of this plant it is possible to achieve stronger hair with accelerated growth, since with the property of dilating blood vessels, rosemary stimulates blood flow in the hair follicles.

This means that when used on the scalp, it will nourish it correctly by activating circulation and thereby improving its structure and growth. Likewise, it will help control head oil, as it is astringent. By helping to balance oil production so that the scalp produces only what it needs, it will remain healthy and nourished, without excesses that cause the follicles to become clogged, which weakens the hair that is born.

If there is a lack of fat, the skin becomes dry and irritated. Therefore, it is important to regulate sebum secretion and thoroughly cleanse the hair without attacking the skin, in order to keep the roots fresh and hydrated. Rosemary manages to hydrate the skin and in addition to this, its antifungal property prevents infections as well as its anti-inflammatory function that calms irritation and itching, so it can be an excellent remedy for dandruff.
