The patriotic festivities this Thursday, July 21, 2023, in Wavre, were enhanced by the presence of their Royal Highnesses Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz.
At 8:30 a.m., the municipal and provincial authorities as well as the representatives of the patriotic groups of Wavre paid their first tribute and proceeded to a laying of flowers at the remembrance plaques of the Town Hall.
It was in a procession that the participants in this first ceremony went to the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church to attend the Te Deum. The solemn ceremony sung in the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church in Wavre was presided over by Bishop Jean-Luc Hudsyn, André Sarota, the new dean of Wavre and Émile Carp, the pastor of the Protestant church in Wavre, in the presence of the civil, military and judicial authorities of Walloon Brabant. On Place Cardinal Mercier, two platoons of the 1st Wing of Beauvechain under the command of Major Detaille as well as the Royal Band of the Air Force were present to welcome their Royal Highnesses.
As required by protocol, Her Highness Princess Astrid, Colonel of the medical component of the Belgian armed forces, after saluting the flag to the sound of the Brabançonne, reviewed the troops. She was then greeted by Governor Gilles Mahieu and Mayor Anne Masson at the entrance to Saint Jean-Baptiste Church. Only people with an invitation card were able to take their place in the church for this Te Deum on July 21.
At the end of this ceremony, their Royal Highnesses Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz took plenty of time to greet and also to talk cheerfully with the population present on the Place Cardinal Mercier at the exit of the church.
The smile of Princess Astrid and the benevolence of Prince Lorenz enhanced these July 21 festivities in Wavre. After having finished greeting the population, their Royal Highnesses then joined the Hôtel du Gouverneur for the reception on July 21 with the representatives of the patriotic associations and the representatives of the civil, military and judicial authorities of Walloon Brabant.
