As the rumor machine involving Apple products continues, this generation of cell phones has barely been launched and we are already faced with more rumors involving the “iPhones 16”which should only be launched at the end of 2024.
According to sources from MacRumorsnext year’s new devices should gain a additional capture button — e capacitivethat is, with sensitivity to pressure and also force, according to the publication.
With the codename “Project Nova”, this new component will supposedly be located on the right side of iPhones, slightly below where the 5G mmWave antenna is currently located on models sold in the United States. With this, this antenna would be moved to the opposite side, where the volume (and Action) antennas are today.
The interesting thing here is that Apple is planning to include this button in the entire “iPhones 16” line, not just restricted to the Pro models. Regarding the next top-of-the-line models, the MacRumors also mentions that they should also get a capacitive Action button — whose internal project would be codenamed “Project Atlas”.
What has not been very clear, until now, is the purpose of this button. If we take into account only the name “capture”, it could be used to capture so-called “Space Videos” to be viewed later on the Vision Pro. It is worth noting that it will be possible to do this later this year on iPhones 15 Pro [Max]through a software update already promised by Apple.
Another possibility is that it could serve as a dedicated button for the camera (open the app + serve as a shutter), but this would take away one of the purposes of the Action button itself.
Finally, the article mentions that the new entry-level models should adopt a new look for the rear cameras — vertically, as already occurred in the iPhones 12. The Pro line models would be equipped with screens slightly larger than the current ones, with 6 .3″ and 6.9″.
