Thirteen workers were trapped in a gold mine in Russia’s Amur region after a landslide, according to a statement from the Russian Emergencies Ministry.

“Communication has been restored and the slope is being cleared with machinery,” the ministry said in a post on the Telegram app.

The Russian president Vladimir Putin has been informed of the 13 trapped workers in the Amur region and will ensure that every effort is made to rescue them, the Kremlin spokesman said today Dmitry Peskov.

According to the protothema, the accident occurred at Pioneer, one of its largest gold mines of Russia based on editability, Russian media reported. This is located in the Amur region of Eastern Siberia, on Russia’s southern border with the China.

The mine is owned by London-listed Russian gold miner Petropavlovsk, which in 2022 filed for receivership as Western sanctions on Gazprombank, the main lender and sole buyer of its gold, have left it struggling to repay her debt.
