Russia attacks Kiev and Lviv region from the air at night
There were Russian air strikes on the Ukrainian capital Kiev and the Lviv region in the west of the country on Sunday night. Videos on social networks show explosions in the capital.
The Ukrainian capital Kiev is being hit by a Russian airstrike, according to Ukrainian officials. The Lviv region in the west of the country is also reporting attacks. According to Polish information, Russia briefly violated the NATO member’s airspace during the attack.
Russia carried out air strikes on the Ukrainian capital Kiev and the Lviv region in the west of the country on Sunday night. “Explosions in the capital. The air defense works. Do not leave the shelters,” wrote Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klitschko on the online Telegram service. The governor of the Lviv region, Maksym Kosytskyi, reported rocket attacks on the district around the city of Stryi, south of Lviv.
For its part, the Polish Armed Forces Operations Command (RSZ) reported that it had observed “intense activity of long-range aircraft from the Russian Federation” during the night, which was linked to the attacks in Ukraine. On March 24th at 4:23 a.m. there was a violation of Polish airspace by a cruise missile launched that night by a Russian long-range aircraft, wrote the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces on the X platform (formerly Twitter). The targets of the attacks were cities in western Ukraine. The object entered Polish airspace near the town of Oserdów and remained there for 39 seconds.

The Polish military had already discovered that its airspace had been violated by a Russian missile at the end of December. The Foreign Ministry in Warsaw then summoned the chargé d’affaires of the Russian embassy and handed him a note of protest. It called on Russia to “explain the airspace violation incident and immediately stop such activities.”
Air alert throughout Ukraine
According to Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovy, about 20 missiles and seven Iranian-made Shahed drones were fired into the region, targeting critical infrastructure.
An air alert had previously been declared throughout Ukraine warning of Russian Tu-95MS fighter jets launching missiles. The alarm was lifted about two hours later. At the end of December, Russia used Tu-95MS fighter jets to launch a wave of attacks on Kiev and other Ukrainian cities. At that time, 39 people were killed.
