Rusnano’s portfolio company, Novomet, has begun smelting a new type of Super duplex steel. It is designed to replace imported analogues used in oil production and chemical plants. This was reported to URA.RU in the press service of the company.
“Super duplex is a stainless steel that belongs to the group of “super steels”. Compared to conventional steel, it has increased corrosion resistance and mechanical strength, good weldability and ease of processing, affordable cost due to the low content of expensive nickel in the composition. High performance makes Super duplex suitable even for operation in open space,” Rosnano representatives said.
In addition to oil production, steel will be used in the production of parts for surface pumps, reservoir pressure maintenance systems and feed pumps at state district power plants, thermal power plants and refineries. Rosnano noted that now the main task is to get out of dependence on supplies from abroad.
“The production of a new type of steel will allow obtaining competencies that are important for the development of the enterprise: the Super duplex smelting process is more complicated than other types, a slight deviation from the manufacturing technology leads to a loss of strength and corrosion-resistant characteristics. The development of this technology will increase the company’s competitiveness and help ensure technological independence in oilfield services,” summed up in Rosnano.
