Russia-Ukraine conflict: How much is freedom worth?

At the same time that, in an unusual way, from the left and from the right, there are still verbal antics not to condemn the invasion with blood and fire in Ukraine, it is worth asking from Argentina how much today we value freedomthat is, the validity of our democratic republics.

Our democracy was built on thousands of dead and disappeared who forced us to understand that dictatorships are not the answer.

That is why it is difficult to understand why it is that there are no more firm and unanimous condemnations on the part of our political society, except for the honorable exceptions that led to the Obelisk wearing the colors of Ukraine.

But of course, some may say, if Europe and the United States reacted with marked anomie, why us? in the midst of economic tribulations and polarized to the extreme.

Precisely for this reason, because our reality is the result of having suffered all the terrorism that authoritarian ways can infringe and because those same despotic demons undermine us democracy from inside. Also, because we have known since 1833 what territorial usurpation is.

But more than anything because from the best of our history we are challenged to shout at this time that sacred cry: “Liberty”.
