Several explosions sounded early Thursday morning in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, following a Russian missile attack, which left eight people injured and caused damage.

Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko said via Telegram on Thursday that the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, is being attacked by Russian missiles this morning.

He added, “The air defense units are working to repel the attack, as missile fragments fell on various areas of the city, wounding eight people.”

The attack on Kiev came one day after a Russian missile fell on an industrial zone in the city of Kharkiv in northern Ukraine, killing five people.

A severe shortage of ammunition and military supplies threatens Ukraine’s control of the 1,000-kilometre-long front line.

European Union presidents are scheduled to meet today in Brussels to discuss using proceeds from frozen financial assets to purchase weapons for Ukraine as part of their attempt to support Kiev in its war against Moscow.

The bloc’s 27 leaders, joined by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky via video link, will discuss how Europe can do more to defend itself and boost its arms industry.

Germany, France and Poland pledged to buy more weapons for Kiev and increase the production of military equipment with partners in Ukraine, and pledged that Ukraine could rely on the tripartite European powers in its attempt to overcome the shortage of military resources.
