A group of Russian soldiers shared a video in which they claim that several of their brothers in arms are currently deserting the army or ending their lives so as not to have to fight in Ukraine, reports the Daily Mail.

Members of the 1442nd regiment, which was deployed in the village of Klishchiivka, near Bakhmout, claim they chose to flee and disobey orders.

They claim that their weapons and ammunition are obsolete or broken; according to them, fighting with such equipment would be tantamount to signing their death warrant.

“We are fighting near Klishchiivka. Almost all of our infantry was killed. An order came today to create an assault group of 10 soldiers. It would be assured death for us,” one of them proclaims in the video.

They believe that they are condemned to be massacred by Ukrainian soldiers if they fight with their current equipment. And if they retreat, it will be the Russian “death squads” who will shoot them.

It is because of this situation that several Russian soldiers decided to end their lives rather than having to continue to go to the front.

“Today a man from our regiment hanged himself. He killed himself out of fear,” we can hear in the video.

Members of the 1442nd regiment also warned their spouses that their decision to flee would likely result in them being killed by the Russian army’s “death squads.”

“A group which retreated was shot. People are fleeing and hanging themselves,” proclaims a member of the regiment.

The Russian regiment also claims that some soldiers who refuse to rush towards certain death are beaten and sent to the front.

“They don’t even let them bring the injured to safety. They shoot at them. Our men are forced to defend themselves against the enemy and against our own compatriots. We should help them and not kill them,” says a soldier in the video.
