Wagner boss criticizes Russian Defense Ministry over alleged Moscow drone strikes
Yevgeny Prigozhin, head of Russia’s Wagner private military company, launched an expletive-laden tirade at the Russian Defense Ministry following an alleged drone strike on Moscow on Tuesday.
Prigozhin said in an audio recording on his Telegram channel that he was aware of and concerned about the drone attack.
“As a person who understands some of this, I can tell you that many years ago it was necessary to deal with these programs [de drones]that we are now years behind our opponents, years, maybe decades,” he said in response to a question from a journalist.
The mercenary chief, who has been in a bitter public dispute with Russia’s military leadership, said the Russian Defense Ministry is doing “absolutely nothing” to catch up with advances in drone technology.
“As for the drones flying over Moscow and in Moscow, you stinking animals, what are you doing? You are pigs! Raise the t… of the offices you have been put in to defend this country,” said.
“You are the Defense Ministry. You didn’t do a m… to put an end to this,” he continued, saying he had warned of the threat many times but officials did nothing to prevent it.
“Why the hell are these drones allowed to reach Moscow?” he said. “They let our houses burn.”
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russian President Vladimir Putin had met officials in the Kremlin after the alleged attack.
Putin’s “working day began very early” and “he received information directly from law enforcement, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the mayor of Moscow and the governor of the Moscow region.”
“Everyone worked correctly. The air defense system also worked well. Obviously, we are talking about the Kyiv regime’s response to our very effective attacks against one of the decision-making centers. The attack on Sunday,” Peskov said.
Peskov said he could not comment where the drones were launched from or who was the target.
“The only [que puedo decir] is that it was obviously an attack by the Kyiv regime,” he added.
Ukraine has denied any direct involvement in the attack.
