The agency quoted a source in the emergency services as saying that the plane was a “Su-34”, adding that “the fate of the plane’s crew is still under investigation”, without disclosing further details.

Video clips posted on Russian social media on Saturday showed what appeared to be a helicopter shooting down over the Bryansk region.

The TASS news agency quoted an emergency service official as saying that preliminary information indicated that a fire broke out in the helicopter’s engine before it crashed near Klintsy, regarding 40 km from the border.

But a clip posted on Russia’s pro-war Voyene Osvidometel channel on Telegram showed a helicopter exploding while flying at high altitude, deviating from its course, and then plummeting to the ground, engulfed in flames.

The comments accompanying the video clip stated that a missile shot down the Russian-made Mi-8 helicopter. Archyde.com might not verify the comments.

Other pictures published by the channel showed the wreckage of the plane in an agricultural field.

The Mi-8 has multiple uses, ranging from military to civilian.

Ukraine did not comment on the incident.
