The Russian Defense Ministry has announced the deaths of two senior Russian military commanders in fighting in eastern Ukraine. Meanwhile, according to Russian sources, heavy fighting continues around the town of Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine. In the past 24 hours, Ukrainian units have made massive attempts to break through defensive lines in Bakhmut, Russian news agencies reported. “All attacks by units of the Ukrainian armed forces were repelled,” Interfax quoted Konashenkov as saying.
On Saturday, Ukraine reported progress in “some areas” around the city of Bakhmut, which had been heavily fought over for months. On Friday, Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Malijar announced online that the Ukrainian army had recaptured two kilometers of territory near Bakhmut. The Russian side suffered “considerable losses”.
