Four Million Players Buy Phantom Blade Zero in First Three Days

S-Game sold four million copies of Phantom Blade Zero within seventy-two hours of its October 29 release, IGN Benelux reported. The action game launched on PlayStation 5 and PC, reaching a concurrent player peak of 833,921 on Steam by the following Sunday. Developer S-Game posted a public statement on X thanking supporters for the initial sales figures. IGN Benelux noted that the milestone places the title behind Black Myth Wukong, which reached ten million sales in its first three days.

Roger Craig Smith Replaces Jay Maksenuk as Voice of Soul

Developer S-Game changed the English voice actor for protagonist Soul just one week into the review period, Game Informer reported. Roger Craig Smith took over the role from Jay Maksenuk, appearing in the official launch trailer and the final game build. Smith previously voiced characters including Sonic the Hedgehog, Ezio Auditore in Assassin’s Creed, Chris Redfield in Resident Evil, and Batman. Game Informer stated that early reviewers heard Maksenuk’s voice during the initial preview phase before the studio implemented the audio swap prior to release.

Martial Arts Combat and Weapon Variety in the Phantom World

Players control Soul, an elite warrior who has sixty-six days to live after a fatal confrontation and subsequent medical treatment, according to Gamekings. The gameplay system avoids traditional soulslike mechanics, meaning enemies do not respawn at checkpoints and players do not lose currency upon death, ID.nl reported. Combat features more than fifty primary weapons with unique movesets alongside limited-use Phantom Edge weapons that execute Sha-Chi attacks. Donnie Yen served as a creative adviser and performed motion capture and voice work for Mó Yuan, the father of the protagonist, while Maggie Robertson voiced Mu Xiaokui, as detailed by IGN Benelux. Standard editions cost 69,99 euro and Digital Deluxe editions cost 79,99 euro in the Netherlands, ID.nl stated.

Development Origins and Studio Background

S-Game built the project using Unreal Engine 5 to target a global audience with what the studio calls kungfupunk style, Gamekings reported. The franchise originated from a 2010 indie game titled Rainblood: Town of Death, which was created using RPG Maker, according to ID.nl. Gamekings reported that S-Game developed the title following earlier mobile releases that accumulated more than twenty million fans in China.
