Sachin and Messi waited! Ravi Shastri’s reply on India’s ICC trophy drought is interesting

Mumbai: Another ICC tournament final is ahead of India. India will face Australia in the World Test Championship final. The final will be held at the Oval on June 7. After that, the team will also play in this year’s ODI World Cup. The World Cup will start in October. India last won the ODI World Cup in 2011. It has been ten years since India last won an ICC title.

India last won the Champions Trophy in 2013. MS Dhoni was the captain that day too. Later, the team reached the semi-finals of the 2015 and 2019 ODI World Cups. If we take the T20 World Cup, the team reached the final in 2014. In 2016 and 2022, they were eliminated in the semi-finals. In 2021, it returned to the group stage. The team lost in the Champions Trophy final and the first Test Championship final.

Former India coach Ravi Shastri gave an interesting answer when asked about India’s drought of ICC titles. Shastri spoke in comparison to football legend Lionel Messi and cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.

Shastri made it clear that if they win a title, India will continue to do so. His words… “India is a team that regularly enters semi-finals or finals in ICC tournaments. Look at Sachin Tendulkar, Sachin won the ICC title in his sixth World Cup. That means it took 24 years. He won it in his last World Cup. Look at Lionel Messi, how many years he has been playing. Messi won the World Cup for Copa America. He even scored in the final. Similarly, India has to wait. “If you get one, you will get the rest,” said Shastri.
