New Delhi: Congress leader from Rajasthan Sachin Pilot met Sonia Gandhi. Sachin’s rival in the Rajasthan Congress and Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot met Sonia Gandhi on Thursday. Hours following this, Sachin reached Sonia’s residence for a meeting.
After the meeting with Sonia, Gehlot had made it clear that he would not contest for the post of Congress President. He had responded to the media saying that he was withdrawing from the race taking the moral responsibility of the rebel riots in the Rajasthan Congress and had apologized to Sonia on the Rajasthan issue.
The decision of the Congress High Command was to make Sachin Pilot the Chief Minister of Rajasthan if Ashok Gehlot became the Congress President. But the position of the Gehlot party MLAs was that they would not allow Sachin to become the chief minister in 2020, who wanted to overthrow the government by removing the rebels. This is followed by Ashok Gehlot’s withdrawal from the presidential race.
When he met the media following his meeting with Sonia Gandhi, Gehlot was asked if he would continue as Chief Minister of Rajasthan. He replied that it was up to Sonia Gandhi to decide.
