Vatican City: The Vatican has taken disciplinary action against a Catholic priest who received the Nobel Peace Prize for sexual allegations. The action is against Bishop Carlos Ximenez Belo, who is accused of sexually abusing boys in East Timor.
The incident took place in the 1990s. The Vatican took action after investigating and confirming the allegation in the Dutch magazine. One of the victims told a Dutch magazine that he had been paid to keep the incident secret. Bishop Carlos Ximenez Belo shared the 1996 Nobel Peace Prize with former East Timor President Jose Ramos Horta for working towards a just and peaceful resolution of the conflict in East Timor.
