Nouakchott’s handling of the Sahara issue has not changed one iota. Melainine Ould Eyih, spokesperson for the government, reminded the media on Wednesday, who are making a lot of noise about a probable change in approach, like what was decided by Spain. Facing the journalists, the minister confirmed that two Mauritanians, gold washers, were injured last week by armed elements of the Polisario. On this occasion, he invited the Mauritanians “to show responsibility”. “This umpteenth incident requires that we remind people in sensitive border areas that there are many suspicions of smuggling, activities of terrorist groups, and that they must therefore be careful”, did he declare.
