The return of Mauritanians from the Tindouf camps is therefore natural for them, and they do so several days in advance to prepare for it. According to Anbaainfo, “most of them (the “Sahrawis” from the Tindouf camps, editor’s note) have Mauritanian civil status documents, in particular a passport and a national identity card”.
One wonders why “most” of the residents of the Tindouf camps have Mauritanian nationality when they are considered in the eyes of the international community as originating from the former Spanish colony called “Western Sahara”, a territory returned under Moroccan sovereignty in 1975 with the Green March.
Moreover, these elections in Mauritania are considered by many “Sahrawis” captive in the Tindouf camps as an opportunity to flee to settle temporarily in Mauritania before organizing “a return to Morocco”, indicates Anbaainfo.
