Saint Louis defeated Missouri 90-84 in the Show Me Showdown on Friday night at the Enterprise Center. Despite trailing 49-38 at the break, the Tigers staged a late-game surge.
First half momentum
The Billikens established an early advantage, leading 18-7 following a series of possessions that saw Saint Louis capitalize on Missouri mistakes. The lead grew to double digits at 24-15 before Missouri began to close the gap. Kennard Davis Jr. contributed to the Tigers’ comeback efforts with a dunk and two steals, including one that led to a Bryson Tiller fast-break dunk. However, Saint Louis maintained control through the end of the first half, heading into the break with a 49-38 lead.
Roster developments
The matchup featured several notable absences and eligibility updates for both programs. While Saint Louis fifth-year senior big man Robbie Avila received a preliminary injunction against the NCAA on Thursday that made him eligible to play, the College Sports Commission denied the team’s request to add a 16th player to its roster. According to KSDK’s Frank Cusumano, Avila was not available for the game. Missouri big man Luke Northweater, who was absent from the team's season opener, also wore street clothes during pregame warmups.
Season starts
Both programs entered the contest with 1-0 records. The Billikens secured their season opener with a 92-67 victory over Lehigh on Monday, while the Tigers previously defeated Cleveland State 111-60 on Tuesday. This Show Me Showdown marked the first time the two teams have faced one another since 2001.
